After more than twenty years of filming, the team of Edge of the Impossible presents a documentary on the conquest of Everest through nearly a century of images that reflects what it has meant to conquer the highest mountain Earth. This has been searched for rare footage and interviews, such as John Hunt, leader of the British expedition of 1953 to which is credited with the first ascent by Hillary and Tenzing, and other well-known climbers, writers such as Maurice Herzog, the first man to hit a high of more than eight thousand meters, Chris Bonington, the head of some of the expeditions to Everest, and Reinhold Messner, who performed the greatest feat in the 1980 Everest to climb alone and without oxygen. One of the biggest innovations is black and white film in the reconstruction of the escalation of Irving and Mallory in 1924. The fruit of that experience is unusual audiovisual narration in which thoughts arise on an issue that symbolizes the passion of man for wanting to reach further, climb higher and in particular by the highest of them all: The Mother Goddess land, Mount Everest. It also shows a historical view of the climbs on this mountain, ending with an expedition trying to reach the summit without oxygen ..

K2 : THE ULTIMATE HIGH

Taylor Brooks (Michael Biehn) and Harold Jameson (Matt Craven) are white-collar professionals by weekday, and accomplished mountain climbers on weekends. Though they share a love for scaling mountains, the two friends are somewhat opposites in their personal lives. Taylor is a thrill-seeking attorney and womanizer, while Harold is a married, level-headed scientist.

On a climb, the pair encounter billionaire Phillip Claiborne (Raymond J. Barry), who is accompanied by a team of fellow climbers. They explain they are testing equipment for a major Himalyan expedition but don't reveal the peak. Brooks meets a climber he remembers from law school, Dallas. That night, two of Claiborne's team ignore Harold's warnings of an impending avalanche and are killed when snow careens down the mountain. Claiborne and the other survivors are rescued only thanks to the quick action of Taylor and Harold. With a hole left in his climbing crew, Taylor begs Claiborne to take him and Harold to join him on his next climb - K2, the second highest peak in the world. Claiborne finally relents and allows the two to join his team.

The entire team heads to the Karakoram and starts the climb successfully, though Taylor butts heads with Dallas while Harold has guilt over leaving his wife to participate. As the ascent continues, the team runs into trouble when their Balti porters strike (mirroring the real-world experiences of several expeditions in the 1970s) and Claiborne becomes ill with altitude sickness. A four-man team (Taylor, Harold, Dallas and Japanese climber Takane) continue the summit with minimal gear. They are stopped when Claiborne makes the decision (talking via radio) to only allow two men to make the final summit, while two wait behind at the high camp. Dallas chooses Takane as the second man to go, and they leave, amidst protest from Taylor and Harold. Later, Takane returns to the tents after a bad fall, in severe hypothermia, dying soon after.

Taylor and Harold decide to try for the summit themselves. After a grueling journey, the pair finish the climb and celebrate. Their happiness is short-lived, however, as Harold slips on the descent and badly breaks his leg. The pain is unbearable and he cannot be moved. Luckily, Taylor soon comes cross Dallas' frozen body, as well as his supply of epinephrine (adrenaline) kept on hand. Taylor injects Harold with morphine and then begins to lower his friend to safety, several dozen feet at a time. Despite Harold's pleas, Taylor refuses to abandon him and continue alone. They continue to descend until they reach a ridge, where a helicopter comes into view. The men are saved and celebrate.

The film covers a team led by Russell Brice in the deadly 2006 climbing season: their successes and failures and the patience and discipline required to make an Everest attempt.
While many of the personalities profile are not endearing, the bright spot is an asthmatic climber Mogens, who has a dream to summit Everest without supplemental oxygen! The film spends a lot of time capturing the trials and tribulations of each of the climbers, with little time left to film the climb itself or the majesty of Mt. Everest.
But if you’re looking for an up front seat on what an Everest attempt is really like, then this film is for you. Otherwise, poking around the Discovery Channel’s website is more fun, especially the neat facts about Mt. Everest and video from the Sherpa Cams! The sherpas are truly amazing people – without them, the climb would be impossible for many amateurs and pros alike!
And lastly, I can’t agree that these men are “heros”, as the Discovery Channel’s narrator loves to repeat. How is it heroic to disobey the orders of the climbing leader, and willingly put yourself and sherpas at risk of death?

The Eiger Sanction 1975

The Eiger Sanction is a 1972 thriller novel by Rodney William Whitaker, written under the pseudonym Trevanian. The story was made into a film directed by and starring Clint Eastwood in 1975.
Dr. Jonathan Hemlock, art professor, mountaineer, and occasional assassin, is called upon by a secret agency of the U.S. government to perform two more "sanctions" (contract assassinations). He will need to climb the Eiger to complete his task. He goes back into training and eventually climbs the mountain with a team that he believes includes his victim—whose identity he will have to deduce on the mountain. Poor climbing conditions disrupt the climb, and lead Hemlock to the discovery that his target is someone other than he had expected.
