On May 18, 1980 the volcano Mount St. Helens, located in the U.S. west coast, erupted, causing dramatic damage and loss. The avalanche of lava and debris that caused the violent activity of the volcano buried hundreds of houses and destroyed everything in its path. What was once a rich forest area, after the eruption became a desert, arid and lifeless. But when everything seemed to think that nature would never resurface, timid buds of certain plants and the presence of certain animal species such as squirrels or mice led to believe that Mount St. Helens could be reborn from the ashes.
